Integration courses are predominantly addressed to new immigrants. Aussiedler/Resettlers receive a voucher of entitlement from the Bundesverwaltungsamt to participate in the courses, foreign people from the Ausländerbehörde. Also people who have been living in Germany for a longer period can be admitted to the courses. You can apply for admittance during the consultations for migration issues at the Caritas (telephone 06202/93140) or at the Diakonisches Werk (telephone 06202/93610) or directly at the Federal Authority/Bundesamt (BAMF).
The integration course as a whole comprises 660 lessons of 45 minutes per lesson. Having participated regularly, you will finally pass the exam “Zertifikat Deutsch” (“Certificate German”). The charge for foreign people is 1,20 Euros per lesson. For Aussiedler/resettlers the courses are free of charge. People receiving social welfare benefit (Sozialhilfe or ALG II) can be granted exemption from the charge upon application.
